Every filing season comes with its’ challenges and this filing season did not prove to be unique. One specific challenge faced by our VITA/TCE partnersusing TaxWise Online (TWO) this year involved intermittent service interruptions or outages. This had an adverse impact on operations at our VITA/TCE sites nationwide. Lessons learned from this experience were that our current contingency plan was not designed to address system failures on a large scale and required revision. Our SPEC Headquarters has worked diligently with CCH Small Firm Services to devise a more viable solution that would reduce partner burden in the event of future occurrences of this magnitude. IRS SPECwill be releasing details on the revised contingency plan over the next few months. In the interim, we wanted to share with you our efforts to improveyour future filing season experience.
For TaxWise Online (TWO) users, the new contingency plan addresses,
* TaxWise online system outages,
* Partner Internet outages, and
* Service areas with no connectivity (e.g. nursing homes, rural locations, shut-ins etc.).
TWO users will have a work offline solution involving TaxWise Desktop that allows them to continue operations in the event of future service interruptions or outages.
A training webinar is being developed to demonstrate this new capability for TWO users.
